- The tower currently holds a
world record for 'Call Change' ringing. The first team to ring 5040
unrepeated call changes in 6hrs 32mins on 8 bells. The feat was achieved
without a break or without changing the ringers (only 8 used.). The band
was not specially selected but 7 of the home band at that time plus 1
guest ringer. The team was 1.John Dietz(C); 2.John Caunter;
3.Pat Johnstone; 4.Paul Pascoe(C); 5.Brian
Redstone; 6.Jack Ryhmes; 7.George Whiddon; 8.Graham Pascoe(C).
[C=Conductor]. Adjudicators: Brian Drake (Devon
Association Chairman), Tom Mugridge (South
Brent) Alan Brown (Ashburton). This record must NOT be confused with
change ringing, where changes in sequence are made on both strokes. All
5040 changes were individually called at almost every handstroke.

WORLD RECORD TEAM AND

of a hard core of 6 home ringers plus enumerable but regular visitors.
- **MILLENIUM RINGING. To
ring out the old year a peal of 1000 unrepeated call changes were
rung on 28 Dec 1999.
The peal lasted 1hr 12mins. The peal contained a splice of Queens,
Whittingtons, Titums
and Reversals. The band contained three of the world record holders of
1990 and five ringers who had never rung a touch of more than 20mins. 1

in the new year 2000 unrepeated call
changes were rung on 1
September 2000, duration 2hrs 18mins. Team 1. Pat Johnstone, 2. Mark Lovell, 3. Paul Pascoe (C), 4.

- A further run of the world
record peal was completed on 30th

Paul Pascoe (C), 4 Kate Pascoe (nee Heath), 5 Brian Redstone, 6 Chris

Over an hour was knocked off the original run time. The first 2500 changes
took 2hrs 40mins with only 5 missed calling opportunities. The second half
was hampered by extreme fatigue. Lasting 2hrs 53mins, it was very
difficult to maintain quality striking, posing extra problems for the
caller who battled through..
